First off you have to show them that you are serious about getting your credit back on track. You'll spend at least a year trying to rebuild your credit. That is more than likely something you don't want to hear. However, lenders have to see that you are very serious about keeping up with your credit history.

Getting a secured credit card

You must also get a secured credit card so that you have established some form of credit. That way your future creditors know that you can be trusted. So if you have had huge credit mistakes in the past they may mean you have to get a secured credit card, which are secured by a bank balance which equals the spending limit on the card. The point of these cards is to build credit when no one else will issue you a card. However, if you can apply for a low interest rate card you should get one and use if for the sole purpose of rebuilding your credit.

A personal Loan

You should also try to get a personal loan; this is another way to help you on rebuilding your credit report. You should make your payments on time; you can never be late, not even once. If you are mailing in your payments then make sure you get it mailed in plenty of time before it is due. To ensure it gets there on time. Remember that even one late payment can make a difference of whether or not you get that car or home loan. You should also try to pay more than your minimum payments every month. You should ideally want to pay off your credit card every month, but if you can't do that then you should defiantly try to pay more than the minimal amount due. For example if your payment is $25, then you should try to make a payment of at least $35. This will accomplish two things. First, it will make you look better in the future lender's eyes, and also is will be paying more toward your principle every month as opposed to your interest, and that will reduce the overall amount you will have to pay.
